Pig & Dan (Igor Tchkotoua and Dan Duncan, respectively) have been redefining and reforming ideas of what good music should be. They haven't found themselves confined by such shackles as genre and where they “fit in.” Instead they've just made it known that what you can expect from them is consistency; consistency in that you can rest assured that when you're needle hits their vinyl, that you're going to like what you hear, even if it isn't the genre you were looking for.

These guys have released tracks that have made it into the sets and mixed CDs of some of the businesses biggest names and now they step back up to the plate, bringing us Heat on Yoshitoshi Recordings.
Heat proves to be the more minimal of the two, a techy joint that is funky in its bass-line and definitely upbeat. The bass-line really makes this track for me, as it's nicely deep, thick, fluctuating, and resonant. There are multiple components of this one, each well produced, planned, and placed, combining to create a digital and synthesized symphony of techy madness. Needless to say, I like it.

Though not cheesy and in your face, Cubes must be named the anthem of this EP. A much larger tune, I can see this one being championed by many of the greats, as it contains elements for everyone to like. From a driving beat and progressive melody, to a bass-line that alternates between tech-house and electro, and all the clicks and bleeps in between, this track is big. Though I'd have to classify it as tech-house/progressive house, I'd hesitate to ever call it anything but good.

This EP really is a great tool, in the sense that there are flavors in here for many different palates. Overall, Cubes currently rules as my personal favorite, but Heat will definitely be sitting in a place of honor in my own record box. As varied as Pig & Dan themselves, in their styles and productions, the Heat EP does a fair job of representing their extensive capabilities.
